Ku lawanka ngama ngurra The kangaroo trackers

$800.00

This painting shows a man in the different stages of tracking a kangaroo. Tracking kangaroos can take all day and requires patience, stealth and cunning. The hunter has special clay on his arms and legs so the kangaroo cannot smell him approaching and he always approaches from downwind. Ngama ngurra (the tracker) is carrying thamul thimpeng (long fighting or hunting spear with a stone tip) and nanhthi thunpith (large spear thrower). The outer rims of the painting show the progress of hunting the kangaroos, stalking, waiting patiently and finally the kill. The kangaroo tracks show the kangaroo going to a waterhole and then continuing it journey. As the day ends the tired kangaroos sit at attention under the boab tree, knowing that the hunter are approaching.
