Youth Diversion
‘Kardu Kigay lurruth ngala’
Youth Diversion, funded through Territory Families, seeks to provide services, programs and activities for young people who are engaged in youth diversion and/or are at risk of offending or entering the formal youth justice system.
Depending on the case, participants that the authorities has recommended for the program complete several hours of Community Service work followed by an Apology and Counselling. This work will include Cleaning up rubbish around the community, mowing and whipper snipping lawns, collecting firewood, cleaning houses and other community work.
Kardu Kigay lurruth ngala is a supplementary program for people that have completed their youth diversion requirements. The program is also offered to all youth in the community. It provides a range of activities that include:
- Bush Wok Cooking Classes
- Gym Sessions
- Mowing and Whipper Snipping in partnership with the men at Healthy Homes
- Art and Culture with the Men from the Men’s Shed
- Fishing and Netting skills through the Fishing Enterprise
- Training, Sport and Outdoor Education with the Youth Centre
