Black Lip Oysters Pass Taste Test

The latest oyster grade is showing that the Black Lip Rock Oysters are growing faster than expected and the first taste test has been given the big thumbs up.

Samples were sent in to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries to identify the levels of cadmium uptake in farmed oysters in the current locations. Parallel to this, a project is being undertaken to address the acceptable cadmium levels in the Food Safety Code.

The next batch of oysters will arrive early in the new year, while this current batch is thriving and on track for harvest this time next year.

A big thank-you to CRCNA (the cooperative research centre for developing northern Australia) for supporting this project.
