The communities of Wadeye, Peppimenarti and Palumpa are located in the West Daly Local Government area, south-west of Darwin.

The area has a recorded population of 3,764 people (ABS 2015), including the 3 main communities and surrounding homelands. The West Daly area is part of the Daly River Port Keats Aboriginal Land Trust, where the Traditional Owners have been recognized through the Aboriginal Land Rights Act (NT) 1976.

Traditional Owners and community members have a strong attachment to their Country and Culture, as well as balancing the lifestyle and demands of non-Indigenous culture.
