Economic Development in the Thamarrurr Region
TDC’s economic development program supports local enterprise development and management. The people of the region have recognised that building sustainable industries on their land leads to the ability to provide for their families and future generations with better, more independent lives.
The program focuses on existing and emerging economic
enterprises and uses them as a model for growth and self-determination for individual families and clan groups.
The TDC board recognise their responsibility to support social and economic development in the region. TDC provides employment and training opportunities, as well as leadership and governance, to the following initiatives:
Mi Marrarl (Kakadu plum) is a unique fruit endemic to the Thamarrurr region and other parts of Northern Australia.
TDC has identified the operation of a fishing bait business as a potential opportunity to create new employment, economic and skill development opportunities for the local people of Wadeye.
The Wadeye licensed Post Office operates 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday* and offers a range of services to the community.
TDC’s Housing and Construction team are leaders in construction, housing maintenance, tenancy and civil works throughout Wadeye and the Thamarrurr Region.
TDC Workshop is a local mechanic and fuel outlet based at Wadeye. It is the main provider of mechanical services to local people and organisations in the region.
